My name is Evan and I am a 28 year old primary school teacher from
the United States. I volunteered for P.O.O.R in the spring of 2007 in
the city of Shillong and it was truly a beautiful experience.
Volunteering allowed me the opportunity to work closely with the
children of India inside a community that I would otherwise never had
access to.
The work was challenging at times, but endlessly rewarding. The children
are of course wonderful, as all children are, and desperately in need of
attention, which I was more than willing to give. Our hosts took the
utmost concern for our safety and well-being. We were very well cared
for and I always felt that the children and people of P.O.O.R were doing
their very best to meet our every need.
If you are considering volunteering for this program, I would highly
recommend that you do so. I know that I will certainly be returning to
the volunteer site I was placed at to see how the children have grown
and progressed in their studies. I was touched by this experience and
not a day goes by that I don't think of my time at the school with Didi
and the children.
