Sona’s parents were prosperous Bengalis living in Nagaland. Her
mother died giving birth to her brother, when Sona was 18 months old. So
she was cared for by her grandparents. When Sona was 2 and a half, the
Nagas killed the whole family in front of the two children. An old blind
woman took care of the two children for the next 9 months. She was very
poor and only gave them rice water. When our social workers went to the
village the two children were suffering from extreme malnutrition and
were covered in sores. Now with the help of a generous donor, Sona and
her brother are studying in high school. Sona is very talented and has
become a beautiful dancer.
